Mitchell man sentenced to penitentiary

A Mitchell man will spend seven years in prison after he was sentenced for multiple charges Tuesday at the Davison County Public Safety Center.

Jeremy Moore, 41, was sentenced to 10 years in the state penitentiary with five years suspended after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance, bupropion. He was also sentenced to a concurrent sentence of five years for second-degree escape, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.

Additionally, Moore was sentenced to two additional years in prison for failure to appear before the court for his other charges.

Although Judge Chris Giles said he appreciated Moore’s recent efforts, which included completing a drug rehabilitation program, he decided not to run the two-year sentence concurrent with the others. He reasoned that doing this would be a fitting way to emphasize the inconvenience that Moore put the court through by failing to appear in court after previously being allowed to stay out of jail pending sentencing.
