ACADEMY — A Pukwana woman was hospitalized Thursday following a one-vehicle rollover in Academy.

Lisa Pazour, 51, was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey westbound on Highway 50 when her vehicle left the roadway at the intersection with 271st Street, struck an approach and rolled, authorities said Monday.

According to the Charles Mix County Sheriff's Office, Pazour said she was traveling at 65 mph while looking at the scenery and missed a curve in the roadway. The vehicle rolled once and landed on its tires.

Pazour was wearing the lap-portion of her seat belt but had the shoulder strap behind her back. After the crash, Pazour was located in the back seat of the vehicle, authorities said, and first responders used the Jaws of Life to extract her.

Pazour suffered broken ribs and was transported to Platte Health Center by Platte Ambulance, the sheriff's office said. There were no passengers, and the vehicle is believed to be totaled.

A seat belt violation is pending. The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Academy and Platte fire departments also responded.
