Funeral services are 11:30 AM, Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the church. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

Vilmer Pietz was born in Hutchinson, County, SD on Feb. 14, 1924, the son of Edward and Alma (Kirsch) Pietz. He died Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD.

Vilmer graduated from Tripp High School. He was united in marriage to Mildred Kulhavy, Dec. 29, 1942 in Lake Andes, SD.

Together they farmed until 1966 north of Wagner. He was then employed by Mattison Machine Works from 1966 to 1986 in Rockford, IL. They moved back to Bonesteel, SD in 1995. Mildred died on October 18, 1997.

Vilmer resided at the Park Villa Apartments in Wagner until Feb of 2017, when he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Tripp, SD.

Vilmer will be remembered for his enjoyment of playing Whoa.

Thankful for having shared his life are his daughter Jan Lipper of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; brothers: Daryl (Joy) of Watertown, Milbert (Esther) of Mitchell, Harlan (Harriet) of Sioux Falls, Martin (Connie) of Rapid City, and Larry (Penny) of Palisade, MN; sisters: MayDene Fuerst of Sioux Falls, SD and Lola (Mike) Baum of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Linda Pietz of Watertown; and brother-in-law, Glenn Kirschenman of Eugene, OR.

Vilmer was preceded in death by his wife Mildred; daughter Sharon (Roger) Horst and son Roger Pietz; son-in-law, George Lipper; brother Ivan Pietz; sisters: LaVerna (Richard) Guericke, Glendora Bartunek, Joann Kirschenman and Arlene (Rudy) Rieger; and brother-in-law, Donald Fuerst.
