Opbroek inducted into 4-H Shooting Sports Hall of Fame

Jerry Opbroek, of Mitchell, was recently inducted into the South Dakota 4-H Shooting Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2017.

Opbroek has been involved with the state's 4-H shooting sports program for 33 years. The induction was held in conjunction with the State Spring Shoot April 28-30 in Fort Pierre.

Opbroek began his service as one of the original shooting sports black powder trainers, starting in 1985. He was a member of the original developmental committee throughout the 1980s, then started an open 4-H shotgun match in Mitchell which continued until 1995, when the 4-H shotgun discipline became more formalized.

Since the Fall State Shoot returned to Mitchell, Opbroek has helped to host the event at the Mitchell Trap Club and provided space and for the muzzleloading event as well.

He was inducted along with Marlin Davis, a volunteer from Faulk County and Don Guthmiller, of Hamlin County.
