Amateur baseball roundup: Nolz powers Parkston past Winner/Colome
WINNER—Ace Brady Nolz went the distance and struck out 12 batters in the Parkston Mudcats' 6-1 Sunshine League victory over Winner/Colome Pheasants on Sunday in Winner.
Nolz gave up four hits, walked one and gave up one run (unearned) in the outing. He also received plenty of run support.
Parkston led 2-1 after the first inning and recorded four runs in the second inning go ahead 6-1. It was enough for the win.
Offensively, Matt Malloy powered Parkston. He went 3-for-5, drove in a run and scored two runs. William Lutjen and Sterling Kinneberg both recorded two hits and both drove in two runs. Jake Weber and Jake DeLange both added hits.
For Winner/Colome, Jared Donahue had two of the four hits. Austin Calhoon and Austin Richey both had a hit. Calhoon took the loss for Winner/Colome. He pitched one and one-third innings, giving up six runs, eight hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Parkston (12-5, 6-4 SL) will host Canova at 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Parkston. Winner/Colome will play the Platte Killer Tomatoes on Thursday in Platte.
Alexandria 10, Wagner 0
ALEXANDRIA—The Alexandria Angels blanked the Wagner Rockets 10-0 in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Sunday in Alexandria.
Jordan Gau earned the win for the Angels. He went four innings, allowed zero runs, no hits and struck out seven batters. The Angels pounded out 10 hits, with eight players recording a hit in the win.
Cole Wenande and Mason Mayer had two hits apiece. Gau, Reid Smith, Tyson Gau, Kye Winter, Chris Marek and Jerrod Zens also had hits. Marek's hit was a solo shot in the second inning.
Logan Mudder and Nathan Kucera each had a hit for the Rockets.
Alexandria (11-1, 8-1 SL) will play the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs on Thursday in Corsica. Wagner (0-7, 0-7 SL) will play the Mount Vernon Mustangs on Thursday in Mount Vernon.
Plankinton 10, Chamberlain 4
CHAMBERLAIN—The Plankinton Bankers put up five runs in the sixth inning to secure a 10-4 Pony Hills win over the Chamberlain Mallards on Sunday.
The Bankers big inning was driven by two Chamberlain errors, a Tyler Waddle double and a groundout.
Josh Engquist earned the win for Plankinton. He threw eight innings, gave up four runs, eight hits and struck out 11 batters.
Waddle, Chris Hill and Tyler Gant each drove in two runs for Plankinton, which had 11 hits. Chris Schwartz, Chris Konechne and Zach Zimprich had two hits in the defeat. Adam Schroeder added a double.
Plankinton (10-6, 6-1 PH) will play in Kimball/White Lake on Thursday. Chamberlain (3-2, 2-3 PH) will play at South Central on Thursday.
South Central 11, Miller 1
GREGORY—The South Central Storm picked up an 11-1 Pony Hills amateur baseball win over the Miller Outlaws on Sunday in Gregory.
The Storm collected 11 hits in the win. Jake Luse powered the Storm at the plate. He went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs. Seth Pistulka had three RBI and Blake Boes drove in two runs.
Paul Taggert and Mac Johnson both had three hits. Johnson picked up the win. He threw eight innings, gave up one run, two hits and struck out 10 batters.
Juan Sabilier took the loss for Miller. He allowed seven runs, 11 hits and struck out nine batters in seven innings. Darin Weiseler and Engles Perez both had a hit in the loss.
South Central will host Chamberlain on Thursday. Miller will host Four Corners on Thursday.
Hartford/Humboldt 10, Salem 4
HUMBOLDT—Hartford/Humboldt earned a 10-4 Cornbelt League win over the Salem Cubs on Sunday in Humboldt.
Blake Svoboda earned the win. He pitched six innings, surrendered two runs, three hits and struck out nine batters. David Novak was tagged with the loss for Salem. He allowed two six runs, six hits and struck out one batter in two innings.
Cole Cheeseman, Steve Mehlbrech, Jesse Muth and David Novak each drove in a run for the Cubs. Hartford/Humboldt had 13 hits in the game.
Salem will play at Flandreau on Thursday. Hartford/Humboldt will host Colman on Thursday.
