Jones leads Marlin girls over Aberdeen
ABERDEEN — Ashley Jones scored three goals to power the Mitchell Marlins girls hockey team over Aberdeen 4-2 on Sunday in Aberdeen.
Along with the hat trick, Jones added one assist and Kelsey Amick scored a goal. Ashley Zimmer added two assists and Jenna Grosdidier recorded one assist. Aberdeen outshot Mitchell 48-17 as Katelyn Uithoven recorded 46 saves in the win.
According to Mitchell head coach Jessica Rezac, Mitchell's win over Aberdeen was the Cougar's first loss in league play since 2015. It's also the first win Mitchell has had over Aberdeen since 2013.
On Saturday, Aberdeen topped Mitchell 8-2. Rebecca Weber and Amick recorded the lone goals for the Marlins, while Jarman had one assist. Uithoven recorded 47 saves.
Mitchell (10-7-2) plays Omaha in the final regular season game on Sunday in Mitchell.
