Area basketball roundup: Koepsell reaches rebounding milestone in MCM win

SALEM — Morgan Koepsell recorded her 1,000th career rebound as Class A No. 5 McCook Central/Montrose downed Tri-Valley 67-52 in girls basketball action on Monday.

McCook Central/Montrose (18-2): Jacy Pulse paced MCM with 17 points and Abigail Van Ruler had 12 points and nine rebounds. Koepsell, who already has 1,000-plus career points, finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Morgan Erikson scored 10 points. Up next: MCM starts Region 5A play on Feb. 20.

Tri-Valley (10-10): Grace Steineke scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Emily McDonald had 11 points. Up next: Tri-Valley starts Region 3A play on Feb. 20.

West Central 67, Bon Homme 40

TYNDALL — Bailey Kortan reached a milestone, but West Central claimed the girls basketball game against Bon Homme on Monday.

West Central (15-4): Bailey Nestor finished with 13 points and Ashlyn McDonald scored 11 points. Up next: The Trojans host Lennox today.

Bon Homme (5-13): Kortan led the Cavaliers with 25 points and scored her 1,000th career point. Kenzie Carson added nine points and nine rebounds. Up next: The Cavaliers host Mount Vernon/Plankinton today.

WINNER — Winner shot only 29 percent but held Platte-Geddes to a 20 percent shooting performance Monday in a Southeast South Dakota Conference girls basketball win.

Winner (17-2): Gabriel Kocer had 15 points, while Bella Swedlund had 11 points for the Warriors, who also got nine points from Maggie LaCompte. Up next: The Warriors play Mobridge-Pollock on Friday in Mobridge.

Platte-Geddes (4-15): Tori Weins had five points and 13 rebounds in the loss for P-G, which had 24 turnovers in the loss. Up next: The Black Panthers play at Wagner on Thursday.

COLOME — On the strength of 28 fourth-quarter points, Gregory earned a tough victory at Colome Monday night in girls basketball action.

Gregory (4-15): The Gorillas had 50 rebounds, including 25 offensive rebounds. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff led a trio of double-doubles with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Sydney Svatos had 14 points and 15 rebounds. Megan Warnke scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds in the win, in which Gregory was 20-for-33 on free throws. Up next: The Gorillas host Burke/South Central on Thursday.

Colome (6-13): MaKayla Shippy had 16 points and Kaydee Heath had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Cowgirls, who also had 10 points from Abby Kortan. Up next: The Cowboys host Marty on Thursday.

Corsica-Stickney (15-2): Cordel Menning scored 15 points and had 16 rebounds for the Jaguars, who outrebounded Freeman 41-27.
