Warbirds outlast Golden Eagles

Wolsey-Wessington fended off a late Mitchell Christian comeback and held on for a 42-39 high school girls basketball victory on Tuesday in Mitchell.

Trailing 26-13 at halftime, the Golden Eagles outscored the Warbirds 26-16 in the second half. Charlotte Haag led MCS with 18 points, while Anna Cooper added seven points.

Wolsey-Wessington was led by Chantel Haider, who had 12 points, while Lizzi Brandt tossed in eight points.

MCS (5-12) plays Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Thursday in Forestburg, while Wolsey-Wessington plays Hitchcock-Tulare on Thursday in Hitchcock.
