Area volleyball roundup: Red Raiders outlast Pirates

AVON—Wagner dropped the first set, but rallied for a 3-1 prep volleyball victory over Avon on Tuesday in Avon. Set scores were 19-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20.

Wagner's Abby Brunsing and Faith Tyler had 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Tyler added 10 digs and two aces. Schylar Juffer and Sierra Juffer had 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Sierra Juffer dished out 36 assists and Schylar Juffer had four aces. Kayli Kocer added two blocks.

For Avon, Cheylee Nagel put down 11 kills and had nine digs. Taylor Hamilton added six kills. Lauren Sees recorded 19 digs. Kacie Mudder and Livi Jurrens had nine digs apiece. Hannah VanGerpen and Madisyn Cameron both had nine assists.

Wagner won the junior varsity match 2-0 and the freshman match 2-1. The Red Raiders (7-2) will play at No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday. Avon (4-2) will play in the Bon Homme Invitational on Saturday in Tyndall.

Platte-Geddes 3, Colome 1

COLOME—Platte-Geddes downed Colome 3-1 in high school volleyball action on Tuesday in Colome. Set scores were 25-18, 26-28, 25-18 and 27-25.

Tori Weins carried the Black Panthers with 16 kills and four blocks. Carly Sprik and Candice Knudson both had nine kills, while Knudson had four aces. Courtney Neuman had 35 assists and eight digs.

For Colome, Kaydee Heath had 12 kills, four blocks and three aces. Haley Krumpus added six kills. Rayne Hermsen recorded 11 digs and four kills for Colome. Makayla Shippy added 17 assists and 10 digs. P-G swept the junior varsity and freshman matches.

Platte-Geddes (3-5) will play in the Bon Homme Invitational on Saturday in Tyndall. Colome (3-6) will host Avon on Sept. 19.

TDA 3, Bon Homme 1

TRIPP—Tripp-Delmont/Armour topped Bon Homme 3-1 in a prep volleyball match on Tuesday in Tripp. Set scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-12 and 25-16.

Brianna Stoebner led TDA with 12 kills and seven digs. Matti Reiner added 10 kills, four digs and three aces. Erica Koster chipped in with 24 assists, seven digs and three kills. Alyssa Whitney added seven digs and 10 assists.

For Bon Homme, Johanna Jelsma had 11 digs and 20 assists. Lauren Bastemeyer added six kills and four digs for the Cavaliers. Emily Cap added 21 digs and Jenae Alberts had 14 digs.

TDA (2-5) will host Freeman on Thursday in Tripp. Bon Homme (0-7) will play Irene-Wakonda on Thursday in Wakonda.

Hanson 3, Canistota 0

ALEXANDRIA—No. 4 Hanson stayed undefeated with a 3-0 sweep against Canistota in prep volleyball action on Tuesday in Alexandria. Set scores were 25-23, 25-11 and 25-12.

Brookelyn Slaba powered the Beavers with 16 digs and 11 kills, while, Brookelyn Weber added 20 digs and seven kills. Jada Campbell recorded eight kills and five blocks. Heather Kayser racked up 28 assists and 11 digs.

For Canistota, Noelle Hofer tallied 14 digs and nine kills. Cassidy Keller added 25 digs and two aces. Hannah Parry had 18 assists. Kenzy Kirby contributed 19 digs and five kills. Hanson won the junior varsity match 25-10 and 25-11.

Hanson (8-0) will play in the Bridgewater-Emery Invitational on Saturday in Emery. Canistota (3-1) will host Dell Rapids St. Mary on Thursday.

Parkston 3, Corsica-Stickney 0

CORSICA—Parkston swept Corsica-Stickney in straight sets in a prep volleyball match on Tuesday in Corsica. Set scores were 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19.

Paige Semmler pounded out nine kills and had two blocks. Lauren Reiner added five kills and three blocks. Sammi Murtha recorded 18 assists, 10 digs and two kills.

For Corsica-Stickney, Bridget Burke had six digs, four kills and two aces. Courtney Menning added two blocks and five digs. Corsica-Stickney won the JV match 25-18, 8-25 and 18-16.

Parkston (3-6) will host Lennox on Thursday. Corsica-Stickney (2-9) will host No. 5 Ethan on Thursday.

Winner 3, Lyman 0

WINNER—Abby Marts recorded 17 kills and 10 digs to power Winner to a 3-0 prep volleyball win over Lyman on Tuesday in Winner. Set scores were 25-7, 25-13 and 25-12.

Morgan Hammerbeck added 10 kills and seven digs for the Warriors. Gracie Littau dished out 30 assists, added nine digs and two serves. Alexis Richey tallied 12 digs and three aces.

For Lyman, Katie McManus had three kills, three digs and two aces. Kadi Terca recorded 10 digs and two assists. Kacie Wagner notched seven digs and Kara Fischer had Lyman's lone block. Winner won the junior varsity match 2-0.

Winner (5-2) will play in the Big Dakota Conference tournament on Saturday in Fort Pierre. Lyman (6-7) will host Sully Buttes on Thursday.

ACDC 3, Scotland 0

LAKE ANDES—Andes Central/Dakota Christian swept Scotland 3-0 in a prep volleyball match on Tuesday in Lake Andes. Set scores were 26-24, 25-22 and 25-18.

Megan Mudder led ACDC with 12 kills, eight digs and two aces. Beulah Black Cloud tallied 16 digs, seven kills and three aces. Tyra Medicine Horn contributed 11 digs, eight kills and two aces. Taylor Gray dished out 26 assists and had two aces in the win.

For Scotland, Taylor Gall notched 16 digs and 11 kills. Taylor Bietz also had a double-double with 14 digs and 25 assists. Kennedy Bietz tallied 10 digs and three kills. ACDC won the junior varsity match 2-1 and the freshman match 2-0.

ACDC (8-1) plays in the Bon Homme Invitational on Saturday in Tyndall. Scotland (1-6) plays in the Bridgewater-Emery Invitational on Saturday in Emery.

KWL 3, MVP 2

WHITE LAKE—Grace Konechne recorded 17 kills, five aces and five blocks to power Kimball/White Lake past Mount Vernon/Plankinton in a five-set thriller (25-16, 22-25, 24-26, 25-22 and 15-10) on Tuesday in White Lake.

Sara Kunnari added 14 kills, Darby Deffenbaugh had nine kills, 31 digs, two aces and

Heather Munsen tallied 45 assists and two aces. For MVP, Destiney Haak had a team-high 11 kills, Camie Walz finished with 21 digs and

Reagan Klooz had 13 assists.

KWL (6-2) plays at Wessington Springs on Monday. MVP (4-4), which won the JV match 2-0, will play at Mitchell Christian on Thursday.

Wolsey-Wess. 3, Mitchell Christian 0

Wolsey-Wessington earned a 3-0 win over Mitchell Christian in prep volleyball action Tuesday in Mitchell. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16 and 25-18.

For Mitchell Christian, Charlotte Haag had four kills and Grace Garrels had three kills and nine digs. Anna Cooper had three kills and three blocks, while Katelyn Karhoff had 10 digs. Sarah Morris added three aces and eight digs. The Golden Eagles dropped the JV game 25-11 and 25-11.

MCS (2-6) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Thursday in Mitchell. Wolsey-Wessington (3-1) plays Aberdeen Christian on Thursday in Wolsey.

Freeman 3, Bridgewater-Emery 2

EMERY—Freeman edged Bridgewater-Emery in a five-set prep volleyball marathon match on Tuesday in Emery. Set scores were 25-18, 22-25, 23-25, 25-18 and 17-15.

Dayna Roth had 11 kills, 10 digs and three aces, while Emily Miller added 13 kills, three blocks and two digs to lead the Flyers. For the Huskies, Katelyn Kotas had 27 digs, five kills and one ace, while Sydney Hoffman had eight kills and five blocks. Joslyn Schrank added 21 digs.

Freeman (8-2) will play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Thursday in Tripp. Bridgewater-Emery (3-3) will play Viborg-Hurley on Thursday in Viborg.

FA/M 3, Irene-Wakonda 1

MARION—Freeman Academy/Marion topped Irene-Wakonda 3-1 in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday in Marion. Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, 16-25 and 25-16.

Irene-Wakonda (1-4) hosts Bon Homme on Thursday in Wakonda. Freeman Academy/Marion (4-3) plays Gayville-Volin and Baltic on Thursday in Freeman.
